August 10, 2006 - My biggest goal was to photograph
the sunset at Independence Pass, but here are some photos I snapped earlier in the evening.
I stopped at the last major switch back on the east side of the pass on Highway 82. |
 |
TOP: Mt. Champion (altitude 13,646 feet)
MIDDLE: La Plata Peak (altitude 14,336 feet)
BOTTOM: A large, unnamed peak that stands in front of Mt. Elbert. |
 |
A photo of the lowest major switchback that shows just how steep this area is! |
 |
Clouds. |

At the Independence Pass summit, I snapped this shot looking east of the divide. |
 |
I first walked up a grassy and marshy knoll north of the Independence Pass
parking lot and snapped this shot. |
 |
I eventually, however, returned back to the road and snapped my sunset photos from this vicinity. Click here to see my sunset photos at Independence Pass! |
